It was truly an unforgettable experience as we welcomed Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild award-winner Darren Criss back to our shores last month. Accompanied by sensational StarKid members and his electrifying band, the tour thrilled packed houses in Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney.
With single shows initially announced in each city, overwhelming demand resulted in second shows added in both Sydney and Melbourne, much to the delight of Criss’ dedicated fan base. Performing alongside a sensational four-piece band, he was joined by fellow StarKids and A Very Potter Musical alumni Lauren Lopez and Joey Ritcher, treating the audience to iconic StarKids hits and providing backing vocals for the expansive setlist; from the beloved songs of Glee to originals from his EP’s.
City to city and night after night, Darren dazzled audiences with spectacular vocals and electric stage presence – interacting with fans and encouraging them to singalong to such hits such as Hopelessly Devoted, Cough Syrup and Teenage Dream.
Following a viral TikTok competition, a fan was invited on stage each show to perform the role of Hermione in ‘Back to Hogwarts’, a number from A Very Potter Musical, much to the delight of Darren and fellow audience members.
A multi-faceted artist with a career spanning television, film, music and stage, Criss shot to fame playing Blaine Anderson on TV phenomenon Glee before his searing performance as spree killer Andrew Cunanan in Ryan Murphy’s award-winning true crime series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
On Broadway, Criss replaced Daniel Radcliffe in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, played the title role in Hedwig and The Angry Inch and starred opposite Laurence Fishburne and Sam Rockwell in David Mamet’s Tony Award-nominated play American Buffalo.
Criss has released three successful EP’s and headlined a hugely popular US national tour to celebrate his debut full-length Christmas album A Very Darren Crissmas. Criss created the hugely popular group StarKids, shooting to fame through the cult hit A Very Potter Musical.
Thank you to audiences Australia wide for embracing these special shows, and we look forward to Darren’s next trip down under.
