IT IS TIME! The international tour of THE LION KING kicks off the Korean season tonight!

The international tour of THE LION KING enjoys its official Korean premiere tonight, Friday 9th November, at Daegu Keimyung Art Center.

The world’s #1 musical, THE LION KING is a musical theatre phenomenon that has been seen by over 95 million people worldwide. Celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary, the first international tour of THE LION KING launches the Korean season in Daegu, following its incredible success in Manila and Singapore.

“THERE IS SIMPLY NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT” – The New York Times.

Tonight’s premiere will be attended by the acclaimed composer and music producer, Lebo M who is responsible for the show’s beautiful and haunting South African musical influence and Donald Holder, the show’s original lighting designer.

About being in South Korea, Lebo M has said, “I am delighted to be in Korea for The Lion King opening night and to experience the culture, and the people of Daegu. It is such an authentic and beautiful city, I look forward to bringing the magic of The Lion King to these audiences.”

Also in attendance at the Korean premiere are Director of International Strategy for Disney Theatrical Group, Felipe Gamba and Producer of The Lion King International Tour, Michael Cassel.

“When we first started planning the international tour, we knew that we had to bring the show to South Korea with our good friends and partners at S&CO. Tonight launches a remarkable five-month season in South Korea, with engagements in Daegu, Seoul and Busan. I’m thrilled that we are able to share this phenomenal production with local audiences in these wonderful cities” commented Producer, Michael Cassel.

The acclaimed director, Julie Taymor, and her extraordinary creative team have brought together a spectacular company. Korean audiences will be treated to awe-inspiring performances by a truly global cast and crew representing 19 nationalities.

Proving its huge popularity with Korean audiences, tickets have been selling fast since they were released in August. The Daegu season is strictly limited with performances until December 25th.

The Daegu season is followed by a season in Seoul with performances from January 9, 2019 with an official Gala Premiere on Friday January 11th at Seoul Arts Center and Busan in April 2019 at Busan’s first musical theater, Dream Theater, for its grand opening.
